These watercolor gift tags are the perfect way for kids to get involved with giving gifts to others this Christmas. They will love playing with watercolor paints to mix colors. Have them experiment with blending blue and yellow to make different shades of green. What I love about these gift tags is that every one is different and they can be hung on the Christmas tree by the recipient next year too.
How to make watercolor Christmas tree gift tags
Have the kids paint a piece of paper with watercolor paints. Help them cut the dry paper into triangles, and then attach them to cardstock Christmas trees.

Supplies needed to make Christmas gift tags
- White card stock or watercolor paper
- Card stock or corrugated glitter cardboard
- Watercolor paint
- Glue
- Hole punch
- String or ribbon
- Scissors
- Paintbrush
- Cup of water
We used a corrugated glitter cardboard for the back of the Christmas tree because we happened to have some leftover from a previous craft. You can use whatever you want, but my advice is to make sure it has a white back so that you can write the gift recipients name on the back of the gift tag.
Instructions for making Christmas gift tags
Step 1
Have the kids paint the watercolor paper (or card stock) with watercolor paints. Let them experiment with mixing blue and yellow together to make green, and then add green paint as well. Set the watercolor art aside to dry.
Step 2
Once the watercolor art is dry, cut it into triangles. I love how every triangle is painted differently, just like Christmas trees in nature.
Step 3
Put your watercolor triangle onto your corrugated glitter cardboard (or card stock) and cut out a Christmas tree shape around it.
Step 4
Glue your watercolor triangle to the cardboard Christmas tree. Punch a hole in the top, and then tie on a string for attaching your gift tag to presents.

Instructions
- Paint a piece of white card stock (or watercolor paper) with watercolor paints, mixing blue, yellow, and green together.
- Once your watercolor art is dry, cut it into triangles.
- Place the triangles on the corrugated glitter cardboard (or card stock) and cut out a Christmas tree shape around them.
- Glue the triangle onto the card stock.
- Punch a hole in the top of the tree.
- Tie a ribbon or piece of string to the top.
